  1. Mr Patrick Allen told me the following story about the Mass tree. There was a Mass tree growing over in Mr Marron's garden, but one night there was a great storm and it was blown down. The tree got its name because Mass was said under it, in the Penal days. The tree was growing in the hedge between Mr Marron's (himself) and Mr Wilkies land. When the tree fell it was carried away and burned. It was a very large hawthorn tree.
