  1. In former times the Irish people had strange ways of curing their ailments. These are a few that I have heard.
    The toothache was a common ailment and it was said that if a frog was kissed the toothache would be all-right in a few days.
    When the people suffered from a headache they tied a silk band tightly around their heads and in that way the headache was supposed to vanish.
    When anyone got a burn if damp salt was applied to it the pain would not signify.
    When anyone had the mumps if a donkey's bridle was put on the sufferer and he or she led round the house three times and then made go under the donkey three time the mumps were supposed to vanish.
