  1. On Christmas Eve long ago the people collected in one house at 12 o'clock. They started four thousand Hail Marys in honour of the four thousand years before the birth of Our Lord. These were finished when it was time to start for first mass.
    A more pagan custom which exists at present is to stay up all night boiling the Plum Pudding.
