  1. Where Ashtown Race course now stands was once occupied by small farms and all tilled. There were small houses on the side of the main road.

    At one time what is known as the main Navan Road ran where the Canal now is, it branched off at Blanchardstown bridge and ended at Blacquire Bridge before the Canal was made.
