  1. Swords.
Many years ago there was a lot of saints living in Swords. St Colmcill was the leader of these saints. As you walk down a little road you can see the ruins of his old chapel.
The sea use to come up on the land at the North of Swords. When St Collmcill there - the land was blank and bare, except a few timber huts. He left a few fellowes to preach to the pagans in the north County Dublin.
First of all the monastery was built. As went on a town was established. Well it happened that the monks had a discussion on what they should call the town. Anyhow the chief monk said that the town should be called after Saint Colmcill. The monks agreed and ever since then the town was called Swords or Sórd Colmcille.
Sórd is a well of pure water which the monks used to baptise the pagans. The well is still to be seen in the ruins. There is a cure for sore eyes in the well.
