  1. Long ago the people lived on the food which they produced on their own lands. From oats they made meal, which they made into oaten bread and stirabout, from wheat they made wheaten meal and they made bread also. They had potatoes, turnips, cabbage and sometimes they had a piece of bacon, instead of tea they had milk. They used to eat their breakfasts of stirabout and milk very early in the morning. They had wooden cups called noggins and also wooden spoons
