  1. There was a certain witch living under a tree with five branches out of it. Every night at ten o clock she used be out watching for any person that would be out until she catch them. no person passed but strangers who knew nothing about her.
    One night a young man from Ballindereen was passing. The witch came out before him and gave him a knife. She told him to strike her three blows with the knife. He did what she told him and he cut off her hand. As her hand was falling it hit the horse that he was riding on. Then she told him to go home and he did. When he got home he put the
