- Local Marriage CustomsIn this district people usually get married in Shrove
When a man is thinking of getting married he gets a friend or cousin to ask the girls hand in marriage.
if the girls parents think him suitable they arrange a meeting at either a fair or market.
Then there is a market-supper at which the intended brridegroom recieves part of the dowry. In olden times the dowry consisted of twenty pounds and a bed, but it is now given according to the means of the girls people.
The priest is then informed of the match and a day is then arranged on which the wedding is held. Some days for marriage are lucky and others unlucky(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
