- IN the lane leading from the Tulbes(?) Road to the river at "Nun's Island" in Gort, John McGrath carried on his trade as cooper some thirty years ago. He made tubs, stans, and churns, and did all the repairs to these utensils. Trade was never very good, and John seemed to be little above wantHon is dead and there is no cooper in Gort now.

- most of the boarded chairs used in the district thirty years ago were made by Jamesy Glynn, browe St. Gort. These were more or less a fancy type of chair, and were suitable for parlours or kitchen use. These chairs had boarded seats and fancy square backs. Glynn was an expert chair-maker and had all the tools required for that work. He has long since passed away and his trade has died with him.
