    The blight came on by nature, just as it comes every year. The potatoes decayed in the ground, and also in the pits, but the second year they decayed in the ground only because there were none left to put into the pits. A poet said,
    "Bhí na gas lobhta lá Lugnasa
    Mar a bhéadh faoi Samhain."
    Relief for the famien came when it was too late, when thousands of people had died, in the roadside, in the fields and in the cabins. But before the famine (about 1820 a.d.) hundreds died of Cholera.
