    Gortinar is the name of the district in which I live, it got this name because of the High ground, it is situated in Killasnett Parish. There are about fifteen families in Gortinar there are six houses slated and mine thatched.
    There are about fifty people in Gortinar, Fletcher is the most common family name. There are five people over seventy years but they do not know Irish. Some years ago there were more houses in Gortinar than they are at present. There are the walls of two old schools.
    Many people emigrated to Canada America & Australia from Gortinar.
    The land is hilly and there are two woods. The river Bonet separates Gortinar from Mullies.
