  1. A lot of home made toys were made long ago.
    Boys made guns out of elderberry branches. They got a straight piece of a branch and cleaned the heart out of it and they blew haws and pieces of paper out of them. The boys also made bird cradles and snares. They made the bird cradles out of wood and the snares out of thin wire, and the spinning tops were made out of spools.
    The girls made dolls from wasc and card-board and pieces of coloured cloth.
    When parents were young they used to play with marbles, balls jack in the box and walk on stilts.
    There were no toys at all.
