My father told me about a man named Peter Moran who lived in the townland of Rantogue aged about eighty years who is now deceased. This man made baskets and creels.
The baskets were made as follows. First sally and oirse rods were boiled and peeled. After some time those rods were split and were left a certain length.
The frames of the baskets were made out of the oirse rods. Sally rods were interwoven with those rods.
One very long rod was required and this rod was left about three times the thickness of any of the others. This rod was twined around the top to keep the basket from fraying.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
