  1. I wandered by the village Tom
    I've sat beneath the tree
    Upon the schoolhouse playing ground
    That sheltered you and me
But few are there to greet us Tom
And none are left who know
That played upon the village green with us
    Twenty years ago

The grass is just as green dear Tom
    Barefooted boys at play
Are sporting now as we were then
    With spirits just as gay
But master sleeps upon the hill
    All coated eor with snow
That afforded us a sliding place -
    Twenty years ago
    III
The old schoolhouse is altered Tom
    The benches are replaced
With new ones very like the old
    Our penknives have defaced
But the same old bricks are in the wall
The bell swing's to and fro
With music just the same dear Tom
