  1. Like many other wild young boy's poor James would like to roam.
    He thought he'd never taste life's joys until he'd leave his home.
    But when old Ireland broke her chain and wide[?] her call was heard
    He joined in ranks to seek her gain with no complaining word
    He little knew in Springtime when he'd fill a silent grave
    Though often he would boldly swear he'd die her cause to save.
    While executing duty right to Ireland a true son
    He lost his life at dead of night by a shot from his own gun
    His comrades never missed him and made their way for home
    Not knowing his poor life grew dim no more with them he'd roam
    Death like reigned the silence no helping hand was nigh
    For doomed was he that gentle lad alone that night to die
    Gently softy fell the snow upon the new
