- Long ago when there were no trains, the people had to travel long distances to big towns and cities by coach. It sometimes took days to accomplish the journey. The roads were very bad and the drivers had to get a relay of horses on the way. These roads were called the old coach roads.
Main Roads: The roads leading from Carrick are known as
1. Boyle Road from Boyle and Carrick on Shannon.
2. The Dublin Sligo Road locally known as Jamestown Road and New Line, to distinguish it from the old Circular Road.
3. The Leitrim road, from Carrick to Drumshanbo, cuts off at a right angle opposite the monastery.
4. Killucan road to Roscommon(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
