  1. Lord Kitchener was born at Ballylongford, Co. Kerry, and his parents were English. He entered the British Army as an officer and rose to the rank of General. He took part in the wars at Lower Egypt and also in the South African war.
    When he returned he held high office in the British Army during the World War.
    While the World War was still raging he was sent to Russia on important business. He started from London with a bodyguard of six or eight army officers. It happened that there was a Russian Ambassador whose name was Mr Beirme, who was living at Jamestown, Co. Leitrim who went also.
    But Mr Beirme was late on arriving at London, and thinking he wasn't going at all Lord Kitchener started without him. When Mr Beirme reached London
