- The bread used in olden times was made from rye, wheat, and oat meal which is grown locally.The people in this district remember grind stones and querns. The querns were used for grinding the wheat into flour. Querns are very common in this district.The boxty was made from potatoes, flour and milk, soda, and salt was also added.The people baked their bread daily and a cross was made on the top of each cake.
