  1. A Local Poet
    Some one asked me some time ago, if I ever heard of a poet that lived at Brackhill Cross named Sylvester oShea (Brackhill Cross is quite close to the Castlemaine Railway Station) I replied I did, and that he flourished at the time oConnell was making his great effort to Repeal the Union. He was a personal friend of the Liberator, because he seemed a bit richer after an interview than before. He praised the great man in the following lines:-
    Thrice welcome, brave oConnell,
    Our guiding star, through bondage drear
    Who freed us without ransom
    Throught torture and through galling chain
    Who wrought Emacipation
    Against the tyrants, made a stand
    And now in spite of fate, he'll win
    Repeal for Paddy's Land.
    He spoke at a meeting held in Milltown in favor of some candidate whom oConnell put forward, in the opening words of his speech he said "Cheers for the great Liberator
