  1. One evening when a woman who lived near a fairy fort was out in a field near her home, she heard a noise like the clattering of horses hooves going towards the fort. Not knowing what it meant, she cursed the maker of he noise and suddenly it became louder and she was filled with awe and went to her home as fast as she could. When she went into the house, she sat down and was unable to get up for some time, and when she did rise, she was lame and crippled and this punishment was inflicted upon her by the fairies, who were the makers of the noise.
