Clothes
When a person dies the clothes are given away to a friend, or to some poor person, before the next Sunday following the death. The clothes belonging to the dead person must then be worn 3 Sundays in succession going to mass for the sake of their soul. Holy water is sprinkled on each garment before being given away. No greater insult could be offered to the friends of the dead person than to fail to wear the clothes to mass for the 3 Sundays.
Weddings
The bride goes in the first car to the church and the bridegroom in the last. Coming home from church as man and wife they go in the first car of the "coiscre", or "drag" as it is called here. Matches are still made and fortunes asked and given among the local farmers. The father-in-law and mother-in-law keep a room and their keep and this is mentioned in the deed that is drawn up by a solicitor. The big weddings, to which all the relatives of both parties up to the third degree of kindred were invited, are a thing of the past around here.
