  1. Many, many years ago before we were born, there lived in a little humble hut in a mountain side an old man and his wife. They had one son who was very good and gentle. One day he walking along and he met with an accident in the head. From that day onward he was almost deaf.
    They were so poor that for the want of food and shelter the father died one night leaving the wife and child destitute.
    The only thing that was left to be done was for the boy to find work in order to support his broken hearted mother and himself. One day he left food enough to last a week, and he started off on a long journey in which he lost his way.
    Often during the days and nights, he thought of his poor mother. He travelled for a long time until he lost track of his home and mother.
    As it was the time of the trouble people thought him a spy and wished to kill him, knowing this and forget-
