- One of the greatest of our local heroes was Maurice Reidy of Knocknavane, Ballymacelligott. He was a great strong man and the best stone thrower in the parish. The throwing of the 1½ cwt. was his hobby. The expert walker was Thomas Prendeville. He used to walk to fairs in Killarney and in Listowel without any difficulty.
