    the only way to save the cow's life was to burn the body of a shrew and apply the ashes to the swelling.
    The otter is a very well known animal in our rivers and does incalculable damage to salmon and trout especially in the spawning season. The skin is very valuable as a fur and fetches about one pound at any farmer's shop.
