Ar an leathanach seo

    inverted and secured standing on a sod of turf. The wick was held in place by a nail laid across the top of the mould. The sod was placed on the window still and allowed to cool. When cool and stiff, the mould was quickly dipped in hot water and was easily extracted from the mould by means of the nail which held t he wick. Rushes were dipped in melted tallow also and used as light. Every woman was able to make candles. Men peeled splinters of bogdeal and those were dried, platted together and used one by one also for light. They had to be "snuffed" every now and then to prevent them from quenching. Women spun and carded and warped thread and made stockings, socks petticoats etc of it or took it to the weaver to make flannel. There is a weaver in this parish at present though he is only one in name. He is a Mr. Moriarty and lives about three miles from the village. The men made baskets (Ciseáin) for drawing turf etc, and small hand baskets and Sciathóga for straining potatoes. They stuck strong rods in a circle in a Scrath (sod) and twined pliable green twigs through the standards,
