  1. A woman's (a friend of Mr. Coffeys of Goulane near Kenmare) cows were taken by the agents from Muckross for non-payment of rent. She lived on a place called Poll a' Ghabhair in the Mangerton direction. She set out for Killarney hoping to get the money from some friend of hers. It was dark night when she got to the five mile bridge where she met a man on a white horse. He asked her where she was going at such an hour. She told him her story and he had such pity for her that he gave her the amount of money necessary to release the cows. He cautioned her to go to the agent straight and give him the money and insist on getting a receipt. He told her to make some excuse so that the agent would allow her take the cows. She thanked him, went her way and knocked up the agent - Grady - at Muckross
