- Warts. Wart lore would fill a book. Water found in a hole in a rock when you are not looking for it is a remover, and so is a stone which has been accidentally boiled with potatoes. A snail rubbed nine times on a wart is stuck on a whitethorn and when the snail is withered the wart is gone. It is locally believed that water in which eggs have been boiled produces warts.
