Our district seems to be a regular treasure trove, according to tradition at any rate, and here is another tale coined from that interesting source, and told me by an old man too except that in this case the teller has now departed the world to my childish grief, for many an hour he whiled away for me with tales of long ago. He was John Ward and lived to a ripe old age and was often known as "Gentleman John", because of his cultured manner and gentlemanly bearing, and was always a great favourite with us children.
    A little way outside our village is a large and pleasant farm known as "Kellybrook". There are little streamlets running through it and the family in
