- These are some of the local sayings connected with the weather:-
When the wind is from the east, 'tis neither good for man or beast.
When the wind is from the south, it blows the bait in the fishe's mouth.
When the wind is from the north, the skilful fisher goes not forth.
When the wind is from the west, then 'tis at its very best.
The south east wind brings most rain to this district. When the sky gets dark or gloomy and billowy clouds are observed in it, it is a sign of rain and when a rainbow is seen in the sky, it is also a sign of rain, between intervals of sunshine, and also, when the distant hills are looking nigh, it is a sign of rain.
When the swallows are flying low almost skimming the ground, it is also a sign of rain or storm, but when they are flying high, it is a sign of good weather.
