- Toy boats were made of a block of wood and they were shaped out with a pen knife, and fitted with a mast, rudder, keel, and sail.
Pop gun. They used cut a straight bit of ash twig six inches or so. Cut the bark round the twig about mid ways. Beat the bark with the flat of the knife handle, along one half the twig until the bark will loosen. The bark can then be slipped off, and it will make the barrel of the gun. The bare half of the stick will make the plunger, and the other half will act as the handle.
