The walls were of stone and white earth mortar

The walls were of stone and white-earth mortar. [This mortar was mud made of the whitish clay which in this district is commonly found under the humous layer] The face of the wall was "pinned" inside and outside with lime mortar. That is the mortar was plastered into the crevices. About the middle of the south wall the door was, and there was a small window on either side.
