  1. The Gilmans lived near Dunmanway. They were very hard landlords. One day the bishop was examining the children for Confirmation.

    In those days a tenant held his farm on a lease for the life of some person. When the persons died his lease was up. Then the rent might be raised, or he might be evicted. He would be usually put to a lot of trouble any way whether evicted or not.
