    Oh how I welcome eve's soft glow
    For then I think and dream,
    Of Heathfields groves where long ago
    Young life flowed like a stream
    All weary cares fade in a haze,
    And memory brings in sight,
    My boyhood's home in fancy's gaze,
    Neath Heathfields sky's blue light.
    II
    I stand again on Coran's side,
    To view fair hill and plain,
    Afar is Shannon's misty tide,
    And Galtee's rugged chain.
    Knockfiernas mount frowns grimly down
    Crowned with its fairy lore,
    But oh in dreams I now but see,
    Those well loved scenes of yore.

    The wild wood where wild flowers bloom
    Still rings with wee birds lay
