  1. There is a little stream in Turfad that had its origin in Lough na Gcléireac and flows into Lough Acannon.
    Along this stream and near it's source there is a mass rock on the lands owned by,
    Philip Lynch,
    Turfad,
    Mountain Lodge,
    Cootehill.
    Mass was celebrated on this rock in penal times.
    While mass was being celebrated scouts were posted on the adjoining hills:- Crocalissa and the opposite hill.
    Crocalissa is in Turfad and the opposite hill is in Carrickacromin,
    Mountain Lodge,
    Cootehill
    On one occasion while mass was being celebrated the priest and congregation were taken by surprise by the military in spite of the watchers.
    The priest turned round and and asked for a few minutes to finish mass
