When the day's work's work was over the teache went with on of the pupils for the night. Sometimes the neighbors gathered in to be taught by the teacher after which they had music, step dancing, and story selling. At that time the pupils did not attend regularly but they did not cease attending school until they were full grown men. often they spent the summer working and learning in England and the winter season in studying at school and in the home.
