Ar an leathanach seo

  1. No one took part in a runaway marriage only the pair that wished to be married and the two sponsors. Often it caused enmity between the parties connected. The pair would arrange between themselves to go to the priest and to get married privately never giving a thought as to where their future home was to be. Sometimes they got a room in the house of a relative who took pity on them while very often they have to separate. The boy would have to go to England in order to earn money to raise a home for them. This gave use to the old proverb-
    "Never marry until you are sure of a house where- in to tarry".
