    The houses were thatched with rushes or sedge which was got on the marsh.
    Candles they used as light in the old houses made by themselves out of rushes.
    First they would peel the rushes and soak them in lard or grease which they had for the purpose. Then they would leave the peeled rushes to harden and they used those as candles.
