  1. My grandmother often told me of a man who composed songs of his own and he also made poetry composed of his own words. The man's name was William Scanlon and he lived in the district of Tournageeha, and he was a farmer and he used to work every day on the farm.
    He is dead about nine years, and his age was seventy nine years when he died. He was buried in the cemetery at Mocollop.
    The name of one song he composed is "The Lackies and Danes" and he sang this song in houses, and the people used to listen to him singing the song to a grand old Irish air.
    I heard that a man named Ned Tobin had a charm for banishing rats out of houses long ago. He used to say a rhyme of words and the rats would all go away out of the house in which he used to work the charm
