- People from this district attend fairs to Ballyshannon, Ballintra, Kinlough, Belleek, and Donegal. A fair is held in these towns once every month but not on the same day.
There is a place in Ballyshannon, and Ballintra for the cattle to stand in until they are sold this is called a “fair green”. In the other towns the cattle have to stand on the street.
There is no money to be paid going into these fairs but in other places the people have to pay for their cattle in the “fair green". “Lucks penny” is what the seller gives to the buyer after they have made bargain and is getting paid for his cattle. To complete the bargain the bargain the buyer takes the seller's hand saying “I will give you £5 or £10” or what ever the bullock is worth, all this time the buyer is clapping the sellers hand and it is many a time that the buyer and seller qarrel over luck's penny the buyer not willing to take what the seller is offering and the seller not willing to give what the buyer is asking.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
