    Once there lived in Bonnyglen, near Glenties, a man named Shawn McNelis. He was very poor...

    and refused to give her up to the king of the fairies. So a great quarrel ensued and the king in a rage struck the bride across the face with his wand and rendered her both deaf & dumb saying at the same time "you have her now Shawn & small use she is to you".
    Shawn brought her to his little cabin where she was well looked after by his kindly wife, but she seemed to get no better. At length Halloweve again came round Shawn as usual stole to the fairy mound. There was great merriment going on & he heard one of fairies say, "if Shawn McNelis had a drop of this for his bride she would soon be cured". At this Shawn burst open the door & with one spring seized the glass of liquid which the fairy was in the act of drinking & ran off in all haste to his home with the fairies in hot pursuit. No sooner had the young woman drank the liquid than she was quite cured.
    Shawn now resolved to restore her to her parents & husband and set off again for Paris. As he entered her parents cottage the bride's mother collapsed as she thought her daughter had come back from the grave, but when Shawn explained everything the old woman was in great delight. The husband, now worn out with grief
