The Revd Chapman was Rector in this Parish ( Lettermacaward) when inside the walls of the old church was almost filled up. He went one day to Matthew Morrow's father and asked him to give him a piece of land for a new graveyard. He told him that he had no money to pay for it unless a few pounds that might be left over after the Church expenses would be paid and a wall built around the church. Mr Morrow was agreeable to his suggestion. Then Revd Chapman went and measured off the land to the north side of the church in Matthews field. The land was rich dry and deep without any rocks or stones so that there is no trouble opening a grave in it. Then a wall of stone and cement was built around the graveyard. After all expenses were paid £10 and that was the amount paid to Matthew Morrow's father. This graveyard is in use over 40 years.
Before the old church was made use of as a Burying place it is not known where the Protestants were buried. Some people believe that the Roman Catholics and Protestants were buried together. At any rate there are no Records showing that there was any special place for them. The R. Catholic graveyard is only a small place and before the Madavagh graveyard was made use of people from as far away as Cummin (12 miles) were buried in Meenagowan.
