- Hemlock is the most dangerous herb growing in this district. About 14 yrs ago it was eaten by three children named Haiston of Carnadore. Two of the children died, and one recovered after a severe illness.
Praiseach Buidhe seems to flourish in this valley, especially in the cornfields. It does great harm by making the corn poor and thin. Some farmers have succeeded in banishing it. Mr. Bernard Devine sprayed the blossoming praiseach with a solution of blue-stone. The herb withered and died. Another farmer has oats in the same field this year and the Praiseach is as plentiful as ever.
The Wild Parsnip is very plentiful too. It grows in woods and mostly under trees. Our village is said to have received its name from this wild plant.
