   balance, having been too fond of his own "brew". He must have consumed all that he had distilled that evening for he was very drunk indeed. He came staggering down the hilly road which led to his home and probably in the darkness, he did not see that the road turned sharply to the right or it may be that he was far too drunk to notice where he was. Anyhow instead of following the road he lurched straight on, fell over the low fence, which skirted the road and dropped some twelve feet into the field below. That was the end of the Whiskey Man - but was it? The old folks say that his ghost still haunts that hill and may on certain nights be seen just at that dangerous spot where he met his death.

   This story has a sequel. A few years ago a certain man belonging to the district was coming rather too quickly on his bicycle down the hill. He tried to brake but the brakes refused to function with the result that he could not possibly turn the sharp corner at the bottom of the hill but rode straight on over the fence and crashed into the field below. By some merciful chance
