  1. Long ago the houses were built with stones and clay and thatched roofs.
    Bed in kitchen
    Long ago the people had beds in the kitchens called outshot beds. The were called outshot because there was a place out on the wall the shape of the bed.
    The Fireplace
    The fireplace was shaped with paving stones, and there was a hob, at each side. The chimney was shaped with a few rows of bricks on the top some houses had no chimney, and the smoke just came out of the door.
    The Windows
    The windows were just an open space on the wall, and they put up boards at night.
    The Floors
    The floors were made of earth called earthen floors. Some were covered with flagstones, others were covered with paving.
