- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The two ends of the basket are pleated first leaving a space across the middle. Into this an extra rib is put at the sides making five ribs as the basket is wider and the rods would not be able to carry much weight without the extra rod or rib to pleat ir round. The baskets were used for carrying turf or carrying turnips to the cattle. But mostly for carrying the fishermen's lines when going out to fish. The lines were coiled up into the basket and carried to the boat.
In times ago the old people used a smaller basket for eating their dinner out of.
When the potatoes were boiled and poured they were emptied into the basket; the family gathered round, each with a bowl of milk and a plate with a little pepper and salt.
