It is customary in this district for a man to bless himself or make the sign of cross and say "In the name of God" when he is about to commence ploughing. When finishing the milking of a cow the milker always makes the sign of the cross on the cow's side. When baking the cake the baker or women generally imprints St Brigid's Cross on the dough before placing it in the oven or pan. The headlands are generally sparkled with Easter Water before the serving of seed. The seed themselves are sprinkled before sowing them.

On Palm Sunday when our Lord and the Apostles were far out in the country. Our Lord ordered one of them to catch an ass which was nearby. When he was caught our Lord mounted him and rode in triumph on his back to Jerusalem. As she went the people strewed flowers palm in His path. Ever since the ass has a cross on his back in memory of the day he carried his Divine Master. It was an old custom in this district when a child had the whooping cough to bring the child to a place where an ass had foaled and put the affected child under the asses belly and over its back three times and then give it some of the asses milk to drink. This was said to cure the child of the whooping cough.
