- In olden times the people had some very queer cures.
The cure they had for the whooping cough was. If they saw a man with a white horse passing by they would go out before his, and ask him for a cure. Whatever he would say suppose it was to buy a loaf and give them a cut each, that would be supposed to cure the whooping cough. If a person had a sore throat the cure was to use a woollen stocking round his neck going to bed and it was supposed that the sore throat would be gone next morning.
