Birdlime, which is used for catching birds is made by cutting the bark of the holly.
It is chopped up and put down to boil in a saucepan. When it is boiled the water is strained out of it. It is pounded up and put into bosces and kept airtight for a few weeks.
Then you cut a small twig and well clean it, and cover it with birdlime. Then you cut a split in the thick end of it to hang it on to another branch.
Next you hang a cage with a bird in it near by and he will call the others. They will perch on the twig and get caught.
