- Cradle birds were made about fifty years ago when frost was severe, or a heavy fall of snow.
They were made from elder rods peeled nicely and interwoven. At the base they were square and about nine inches high. They were brought into a point on top and a perch placed inside to support a Gabalog. To this gabalog was attached a string. The Cradle bird was set in the yard where the hen's usually feed and where the little birds come for the leavings.
You watched at a distance and the string in your hand and when the bird went under the cradle bird you drew the string and the cradle bird fell and you(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
