- Bread.
Bread was made of wheaten-meal long ago. The people ground the wheat by means of a quern.
The quern was made up of two round flat sided stones. There was a hole in the middle of one of them. The stone without the hole was stuck in the group so that it could not be moved. Then the other stone was placed on top of it. One person caught hold of the top stone and spun it round while another person dropped corn into the hole. IN this way the corn was crushed. John Ryan of Castlgar has one of these querns but he never uses it. It was last used fifty years ago.
The bread was usually baked on a griddle.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
